ALEXANDRU RĂDVAN: SOMA

Mai 16 - Juni 16, 2005 Anaid Art Gallery Bucharest

Monday, 16th May 2005, at 07:00 pm will take place at ANAID ART GALLERY the opening of the exhibition "SOMA" signed Alexandru Rădvan. The public interested in contemporary art will be able to visit the exhibition from 16th May until 16th June 2005.

"SOMA" remembers the Greek myth of Minotaurus, putting in discussion the human side of him. The Minothaurus story, the monstrous creature - half bull, half human - is questioned and goes to an interior feeling out. Alexandru Rădvan proposes a Minotaurus worried by his own condition, a rebellious one, aware of his own destiny. Symbol of the dark, of the evil, Minotaurus is confronting with the desire to be accepted. Minotaurus feels isolated; his curse convicts him to loneliness and darkness, convicted by the world even if he is not guilty. The self-mutilation is seen as a freedom, the tortures administered to his own body as a forgiven of the sins. This dimension of self-flagellation and compassion is exploited by Alexandru Rădvan.

The exhibition, shaped from paintings of big dimensions, recreates the labyrinth from Knossos built by Dedalus, for the King Minos. A labyrinth of his own human being, in that everyone can find himself, a searching of the self. A labyrinth of the uncertainty.

"SOMA" provokes and in the same time feel out the most unseen ways of the self, brought to the awareness and acceptance of the own destiny. It is an interrogation about the faith and the life in itself, a continuous search to understand the own condition. The Minotaurus desires his acceptance, are moments, when he even entreats it. In every paintings exists a labyrinth, from that you can not run, from that you can note escape only through the mutilation. This time the body mutilation heals the spiritual one.

The gallery visit hours are: Monday - Friday: 11:00 am - 07:00 pm; Saturday: 10:00 am - 06:00 pm.
