Friday, 12 June 2009, at 08:00 p.m will take place at ANAID ART GALLERY the opening of the exhibition “Wond’ring aloud” signed Alexandru Rădvan, curator: Diana Dochia. The exhibition will take place as part of the event “NAG#3” (White Night of the Galleries # 3), the gallery will be open for the public in the night of 12 June until 03:00 a.m . Persons interested in contemporary art will be able to visit the exhibition from 12th June – 10th July 2009.
Alexandru Rădvan is a well known artist to the Romanian public thanks to the exhibitions “Soma”, “Memories of Constantine”, “Hommage to Judas and the Crusaders” propose this time a retrospective with drawings about erotism in art. The series represents an ensemble of drawings that belongs to different cycles and creations stages.
“Wond’ring aloud” is an exhibition about Eros and erotism, Alexandru Rădvan suggested a relooking of some drawings from 2001 until now: Heros 2001, Song of Songs 2001-2002, Drawings for Petronius 2002, Erotic 2003-2004, The Monument of the Common Woman 2005, Wond’ring aloud 2007-2008, Gods 2009. Thought to be seen in the frame of some thematically cycles and followed the chronological way, the exhibition put in discussion a subject often controversial: how we look and how we perceive the erotic art. The erotism becomes in the frame of Alexandru Rădvan’s drawings more a pretext than a mean. The fine and elegant drawing, but with a firm outlined line from the first works received conotation full of tensions emphasized a well defined line in the series of drawings “Wond’ring aloud”.
The exhibition “Wond’ring aloud” represents a questioning of an inconvenient subject. Seen with daring by some ones, and with shyness by the others, the erotic it became a constant in the frame of art, revolutionized each time the ways of approaching and understanding, bringing often a renewal at the perception level of the phenomena, and opened multiple ways of reinterpretation in the contemporary art.
